1) Breakfast and Basketball

Parents: Something to think about while watching your child play in a game.

A mother was making breakfast, eggs and toast, for her son. Suddenly the boy bursts into the kitchen.

Careful! Careful! Put in some more butter! You're cooking too many at once. Too Many! Turn Them! Turn them now! We need more Butter! Where are we going to get more butter? They're going to stick! Careful, Careful! I said be careful. You never listen to me when you're cooking! Never! Turn Them! Hurry up! Don't forget to salt them! You know, you always forget to use the salt. Use the Salt. Use the Salt. The Salt.

The mother stared at him. "What's wrong with you? You think I don't know how to make eggs?"

The son calmly replied, I just wanted to show you how it feels when I'm trying to play basketball.

Moral of the Story:

Let the kids play!

2) A Parent's Surprise

A young boy was struggling in his Math class, so his mother said she would buy him a basketball if he earned over a 90 on his next test. He came home a week later and showed his mom his score of a 91.

The incentive worked so she told him that she'd buy him a bike if he scored over a 90 again. He earned a 94 on his next test. For the final test, she said he would take him and 3 friends to a Basketball game if he score over 90 one final time. Sure enough, he earned his best score yet, 97, on the final test.

Parent Teacher conferences came around and the mother proudly walked into the Teacher's office. The mother thanked the teacher for all of her hard work with her son.

The teacher looked at the mother puzzled, handed her the grade report and saw the 91, 94, and 97.

The mother looked at the next column and realizes that her son did score over 90 all 3 times, but that each exam was out of 300.

The boy was punished for the entire year and wasn't allowed to have playdates.

Moral of the Story:

Tell the Whole Truth

3) The Tale of the Toaster

In a huge game, Blake Berne, nicknamed "The Toaster" of Tenafly, New Jersey, was forced to leave the game with only 4 minutes remaining with a bloody nose. With his team leading by 8 points, Blake left with parents' assistance and couldn't be found.

Moments later the lead disappeared and his team was down by 4 with a minute to go in the game.

Out of nowhere Blake returned with a bloody white shirt and tissues in his nose to stop the bleeding. In a span of 30 seconds Blake scored 2 baskets and forced the game into Overtime.

His team was fired up in the overtime period, and with Blake as the leader, he burned the other team with 3 straight baskets to win the game.

Moral of the Story:

Are you hurt or injured?

Injured: something is broken or you are short of breath and you need to get to the hospital

Hurt: You have a scrape, burn, or cut But you can play!

4) King James the Hero

James Georgio, the captain of the Dream Team, always wanted the ball in his hands at the end of the game. He was the undisputed leader and was always able to drive to the basket and create his own shot.

At the end of each practice, the team finished with sprints. The basketball was placed on the foul line and whoever got to it first needed to make 2 foul shots in a row.

James was one of the fastest players, so he got there almost every time. The first 3 times, he made the first and missed the 2nd. Finally, he made 2 in a row and the practice ended.

That weekend the team traveled to Whippany for a tournament. In the final game, the Dream Team was over-matched playing against bigger and older competition.

Somehow the Dream Team managed to get a 2-point lead late in the game. With the other team setting up a 3-point shot to win the game, James stole in-bounds pass and went in for a lay-up to ice the game. He got fouled and missed the shot.

To the foul line he went with 3 seconds left. If he makes both was are assured victory. Sure enough, James sunk both shots and the team jumped on him as we pulled off the huge win.

Moral Of the Story:

Perfect Practice makes Perfect

5) The Legend of Johnny O

Clearly overmatched, Johnny O's team trailed the entire game. Down by as many as 24 points, Coach CMEK did not have any answers for the Duke, Barracuda and Net in an epic summer camp game.

After cutting the lead to 12 to start the 4th quarter, Coach CMEK had his team starting to believe. After amazing plays by Cory Adelson "Rim Rocker" and Sam Siegel "The Wind", Coach CMEK's team was one play away from pulling off a miraculous comeback. After a late steal with the clock winding down, timeout was called and CMEK's team had 1 second to finish the comeback.

With the entire other team focusing on Sam and Cory, Johnny O found an open spot in the corner. With hands flying at him, the shot went up, and then swished right through.

The comeback was complete!

Moral of the Story:

Dont give up; Don't ever give up!

6) Spinning his way to the Top

The journey of Yaakov Fogel "The Spinner" has twists and turns, ups and downs, and of course, a memorable spin that will never be forgotten.

Spinner started his journey at CMEK Englewood where he joined a new group just to play some hoops. He quickly asserted himself as a strong, aggressive player. Next, he played the CMEK league in Closter, but was stuck in mediocrity and never could spin his way to the top.

After months of practice, as a young 3rd grader, Spinner competed in the 4th and 5th grade league. While playing alongside great players who were bigger, tougher and faster, Spinner found his niche and contributed on a weekly basis. Suddenly, the championship game was here. Tied with 9 seconds left, Spinner's teammate looked around for the open man to pass to. Spinner was spotted in the corner, caught the ball and took the shot. The ball continued to spin around the rim and eventually dropped in. Spinner says Championship!

Hardwork pays off
